Importing files after a system upgrade from WIN 98 to WIN 2000Last week my computer was upgraded with Windows 2000 from Windows 98. My backups of ODB are in the system. I was able to download the latest version, but cannot import files to the database. I had an "expert" come to check it out. This is the message we get and don't know where to go from it: "You selected an MS Access file. Please use Access to export the table you want to load in ODB to text, and to import the text file." Besides my automatic backups on the system I have a recent save to a floppy disk. Neither option will open. I am desperate. Can you help me? I am using ODB for two nonprofit agencies I volunteer with and am afraid of losing months and months of data entry, if I cannot solve this problem! Thanks. That is genuinely helpful. I

That is genuinely helpful. I would like to ask if it would be Okay if I mentioned some of that on my own internet marketing strategies blog. Of course, I would credit you, and link back here also. generique |
getting data from an ODB backup
You should not need to "import" files into ODB if you already have a file created with ODB. See if this helpls:
1. put your most recent backup data file in the location where you want your data files to reside. Make sure you note the file path.
2. Open up ODB and go to "settings" - the wrench icon
3. There should be a button called "Show / Change Database Location" - click on this. You may be prompted for a password which probably is "admin" - click OK
4. System will restart - when it does you will be given a window to create a new database, choose an existing, or load sample data. Choose "use an existing database"
5. You will then be prompted if you want to open up a window to navigate to find your new database - click yes
6. Find your backup database file - choose it and click "open" or "ok"
7. you may need to restart the database, but it should work
