Add a Member # field to ODB?While I don't consider myself a developer, this seems the more appropriate place for this question. I've installed and played around with ODB for 2 different projects over the past 2 weeks. I have done the basic customizations I need to do (thanks, Rich, for answering the change TYPE question). Now, here's where I'm stymied. One group is a membership organization, so we already have 6,000+ member numbers distributed. How do we, in ODB, enter that member number? That is the only thing so far I haven't figured out! I don't see a way to add an entry field where we can type in their existing member number. Is there a way to do that? Thanks, |

hi Claire --
You could certainly type in or import the existing member number into a custom field -- or import it into the "oldID" field.
I don't know if it is an option but the preferable solution would be to reassign everyone to use as their new member number the ID assigned to them within ODB. This ID number is visible on reply slips, when you open a record, and when you expand the ODB main window. It is not possible to change this number because it has to be unique.
If for some reason you don't want to do that and you want the capability to retain the historical member number, you could contract with us to provide an easier way to display the old member number, or old ID, carried over from the system you were formerly using.

create a custom field
Reassignment of existing #s isn't a desirable option. I do see where the ODB number shows when you expand the Main Window (didn't know that!). Creating a custom field seems like the option we'll work toward. I'll touch base with you directly about the possibility of a cusomization on that and we'll see about a workaround for the time being. In the meantime, we'll just put it in the comment field as we're currently working with the old db and ODB simultaneously. Seems as if my sig line quote is appropriate! I'm learning quite a bit.
