Can Remote Control by URL be used to subscribe to YahooGroups? If so, how?The customization menus provide, as far as I can tell, for labelling the buttons on the Email/Web tab in a record, and for providing ToolTip information on that button, but I don't see where or how to provide a code for subscribing a user to a list. And I am wondering whether the YahooGroups subscription process can be remotely managed from eBase, in the first place. Does anyone know? Have you used the remote function successfully? What are the steps? Thanks, in advance! |

Remote Control settings
Linda --
This interface only allows you to initiate actions that can be controlled by a simple web page "GET" action.
For example for Yahoogroups if you had a list like the (now inactive) ODB users groups list you could "get info" on it by putting the following text into the ODB settings:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/odbuser
Where does this go?
Go into settings, and then click on the last button, "Email Remote Control" and then finally specify the url for "Get Info URL for HTTP Command #1".
To control yahoo or google Groups, those services would have to have what is called a "REST API". Unfortunately they do not appear to have one. If they did have one you could specify the URL and put a "*" where the email address belongs within the URL.
However, Constant Contact does have a REST API. See:
http://developer.constantcontact.com/doc/reference
Also, I developed some PHP code to interface with ODB on a custom web site, using PHP list, and someone got it working and adapted it to become a Wordpress plugin:
http://projects.jesseheap.com/all-projects/phplist-subscribe-http
So there is a lot of potential for someone to further develop this feature within ODB.

Hi Rich,
THANKS for the answer! Sorry, I have not checked back in form months and so just saw your post. We've been happily using our ODB all along.
Best,
